Elevating Leader Profiles: How to Optimize Your Presence on LinkedIn

If you’re looking to build more of a presence on LinkedIn (which we wholeheartedly recommend), there are a number of steps you can take to optimize your profile. Particularly if you want to serve as an ambassador for your company’s brand, a little bit of fine-tuning can go a long way toward establishing your business (and yourself) as an active, contributing field expert.

Here are four step-by-step ways you can elevate your profile.

1. Optimize your presence
Some of these ideas might seem simple, but it’s easy for time to pass and a LinkedIn profile to get stale. Use this checklist to be sure you’re current and up-to-date!

  • Link to your company’s page
  • Ensure your title and position is current
  • Connect your work email to your account
  • Use a professional profile photo (ideally with a company-branded background)
  • Check your “about” section and make any necessary updates

 2. Create a custom public profile URL
A custom public profile URL replaces the default string of numbers at the end of your LinkedIn profile URL with your name or a unique identifier. This makes it significantly easier to share and is decidedly more professional. What’s more, it improves SEO and enhances your searchability.

3. Get your profile verified

LinkedIn verification allows users to verify certain information on their profiles, such as identity, workplace, and educational institution. Why do this? It’s all in the numbers. Verified profiles get 60% more profile views, 50% more comments and reactions on their posts, and 30% more messages.

 4. Utilize the LinkedIn feature section
Using the LinkedIn feature section to “pin” LinkedIn posts, articles, newsletters, hyperlinks, and media files such as PDFs or images comes with a number of benefits. It enhances visibility, ensuring key information is not buried in your activity feed, and it drives engagement by sharing content that resonates with your target audience.

Go ahead and get started! Though some of these tasks can seem daunting at first, after a few times, they will start to feel like second nature. And if you’d like a hand, we’re always here to help.
